The old school was built in 1992, and has deteriorated significantly. In 2025, structural damage and landslides caused the school to collapse, forcing students to attend classes in the cultural house and neighboring homes temporarily. This situation highlights the urgent need for a safe, permanent school building. The school serves over 140 students. Approximately 80% of the students are from the Bana ethnic group, whose community faces considerable challenges. The villagers mostly rely on farming just to meet their basic needs. They have little access to roads, healthcare, and other important services. Many people face economic hardship because jobs are rare, incomes are low, and it is hard to sell goods in markets. Being far away from towns makes it even harder to get healthcare, education, and supplies, which increases their isolation. In addition, the schools are not well-equipped, and there are few resources for learning. Children often study in simple, temporary classrooms, which makes learning difficult.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our generous sponsors. The four new classrooms, playground, and restrooms are dedicated in honor of Thien Phuoc, Tommy Pham, Bryant & Bryanna Nguyen, MindyTran Nguyen, and Hong Vy An. The total estimated cost for the 2,002 square-ft school is $33,840, which will cover the construction of four new classrooms, a playground, and boy and girl restrooms.

LSF is excited to advance with the construction of a new concrete school, following the approval of the building permit and completion of land verification. We have successfully completed the 1st phase of supply transportation, and work on the foundation is currently in progress. While rising gas and supply costs due to the ongoing conflict in Iran have posed challenges, we are optimistic that once conditions improve, we can proceed with the 2nd phase of transporting materials.

We expect the new school to be completed by September 2026, aiming to welcome our students into their new classrooms as they return from their summer break. The grand-opening of the new school is scheduled on October 16, 2026.
