As Vietnam has contained the COVID-19 virus, lifting social isolation measures and reopening the economy – our local team can now resume construction effort to build new schools. The Lotus School Foundation’s work to serve underprivileged children continues with the rebuilding of our 12th school project in Nghe An – Vietnam.
Nghe An is the largest province in north-central Vietnam bordering Laos and the Gulf of Tonkin. It is among the country’s poorest regions. Frequent typhoons, mudslides, and flooding devastate this area each year. The region is home to a big number of ethnic minorities who are marginalized due to their ethnicity and also because many live in remote areas. Close to 80% of the population resides in rural areas. Life for poor families and children is full of hardship. The new school will benefit underprivileged ethnic Kho Mu children living in poor, rural mountainous areas.
Huoi Tong Elementary School is located deep in the mountain 300km away from the center. The school was built in 2004 and the infrastructure is severely deteriorating. Our Project Supervisor, Mr. Kenny Dam has inspected the school on March 07, 2019. Through the inspection, there were visible signs of termite-induced structural damage in the wooden building. The current condition makes it an unsafe environment for children to learn.
The new school building is estimated to cost $10,700. The cost covers 5 classrooms, 2 restrooms, a concrete surface playground, and a commercial stainless steel water tank for the school to store clean water. All of the classrooms will be furnished with new furniture at an additional estimated cost of $1,444. Our local charity partner, QXTVC will help sponsor the cost of the classroom furniture. With good weather, the new school is expected to complete by July-August of 2020. As the rainy season is rapidly approaching, our team is committed to completing this project soon.
It is only with your help that our work is possible. Your ACTION will help many disadvantaged children’s dreams come true!
FANTASTIC NEWS!!! THE NEW SCHOOL IS COMPLETED!
After a couple of months of heavy rain in the area, LSF is very pleased that the new school is finally completed. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic that is still affecting the world, our team is postponing the formal GRAND OPENING CELEBRATION until the end of this year or sometimes in 2021. The safety of our team, teachers, students, and the local villagers is the most important and we are taking all necessary precautions to ensure the safety of everyone. We are very excited to to open the new school to serve 85 children.
We are sincerely grateful for your support. It is you who has helped bring hope to many disadvantage children!
