The Lotus School Foundation is humbled and grateful to wrap up this unprecedented year with our 19th project, the building of Con Huat School located in Yen Chau, Son La – Vietnam. The students in this village have been school-less for over 2 years now, as the conditions of the old Con Huat school have deteriorated so severely that it was no longer safe to use. The students were divided into 2 groups and have been temporarily using the cultural center and at villager’s homes to learn. A new school will provide these students with the stability that they deserve and a new beginning in the new year! The new school is expected to complete by the end of April 2021, and it is estimated to cost $10,010. The cost covers 2 classrooms, 2 restrooms, a concrete surfaced playground, a new main entrance school signage, and new classroom furniture to accommodate 60 students.
After a long break to celebrate the Lunar New Year and following a “stay-at-home” mandate to combat the Covid-19 outbreak that was spreading throughout several provinces in Vietnam, the students finally headed back to school at the end of February. The students, teachers, parents, and villagers are overjoyed to be settling into their new classrooms. Parents are now more motivated to send their children to school.
This project would not have been possible without our supporters and donors for their generous donations. The school is already in use. However, the formal grand opening will be determined at a later time, depending on the Covid-19 outcome. Our US team is looking forward to visiting and celebrating with the students at Ban Bon school sometime this year.
