muong hoong elementary school

ngoc linh – quang ngai – vietnam

The Lotus School Foundation extends our deepest thoughts and prayers to the people of Central Vietnam. As part of our efforts to support this region, we humbly announce LSF’s 67th project — the rebuilding of Muong Hoong School in Xa Ua Village – Quang Ngai District. This new school will benefit more than 120 students, providing them with a safe and nurturing environment to grow and thrive.

Over the past two months, this region has endured relentless hardships — back-to-back typhoons, severe flooding, landslides, and heavy rain. We had hoped to begin construction in October, but continuous extreme weather has made it impossible. During a recent site inspection and groundbreaking ceremony last week on 11/21/2025, our builder confirmed that the roads remain blocked by mudslides, delaying material transport and construction. The school is also temporarily closed due to the typhoon. See the video clips in this post for further insight of the conditions and challenges.

The students of Muong Hoong come from Xơ Đăng ethnic minority families living in remote mountain villages, far from the town center. Life here is filled with challenges — most families rely on small-scale farming and forestry to survive. Every day, many children walk long distances to school, often braving cold winters with little food, limited nutrition, and few school supplies.

The current school building is severely deteriorated, posing safety risks for the children. To give them a better future, LSF will build a new, safe, and sturdy school to create a secure and supportive environment where students can truly thrive. We are deeply grateful to our generous sponsors. The four classrooms will be lovingly dedicated in honor of: Nga Quach, Diep, Nguyen’s Family, Zena Hope, and Binh An.

Due to the recent typhoons and landslides, local authorities are still working hard to clear and reopen the roads. As soon as access is restored, our builder will begin transporting materials to the site. We’re aiming to start construction by late December or early January, with completion anticipated around May 2026.
